Rooted in Kansas. Built One Loaf at a Time.
Sunflower State Sourdough Co. is a home-based microbakery in Perry, Kansas, baking slow-fermented, small-batch sourdough with simple ingredients and a lot of intention.
What started as a love of feeding family and friends grew into weekly bread drops, local markets, and a bakery built around doing things well — not fast. Every loaf is mixed, shaped, and baked by hand, in one kitchen, by one baker, while real life happens around it.
You’ll find Sunflower State Sourdough Co. serving Perry, Lecompton, Lawrence, Topeka, Kansas, with regular appearances at local markets throughout Northeast Kansas.

A BAKERY ROOTED IN REAL LIFE
This bakery exists at the intersection of sourdough, gardening, and feeding people well.
When the ovens aren’t on, there’s usually time spent in a 3,000 sq ft garden, tending vegetables and herbs — some of which even make their way to a local restaurant. That love of growing and feeding goes hand-in-hand with the bread.
Sunflower State Sourdough Co. is intentionally small: one baker, one home kitchen, and a rhythm designed to support family life, not compete with it.
HI, I’M THE BAKER!
I’m Kali — the human behind the flour, the starter, and the weekly bread drops.
I live on 40 acres just north of Lawrence, Kansas with my husband, two young daughters, two dogs, and approximately 30 chickens (give or take). I was born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada grew up in Austin, Texas for 30 years, and eventually landed in Kansas to live a slower, more intentional life.
I’ve worn a lot of hats over the years — including a decade in the construction industry and a degree in Exercise & Sports Science — which probably explains why I love systems, structure, and understanding why things work. I was also recently diagnosed with ADHD, which means this bakery is built with clarity, flexibility, and realistic expectations in mind.
Questions are always welcome. Perfection is not required.

MORE THAN JUST BREAD
Along with weekly bread drops, Sunflower State Sourdough Co. also offers Breaducation 101, an in-person beginner sourdough class designed to make sourdough feel approachable and doable.
More resources for microbakers — including a Microbakery Business Planner — are in the works.
